Social media image sizes

16 October 2026 · Cretivkit

Social networks publish recommended sizes and then crop or recompress what you upload. You still need a deliberate frame before that happens. The Cretivkit social resizer exports the sizes below on your device. Fill covers the frame. Fit keeps the whole image and paints the empty area.

Sizes worth exporting

  • Instagram post: 1080 by 1080 pixels
  • Instagram portrait: 1080 by 1350 pixels
  • Instagram story: 1080 by 1920 pixels
  • Facebook post: 1200 by 630 pixels
  • Facebook cover: 820 by 312 pixels
  • X post: 1600 by 900 pixels
  • LinkedIn post: 1200 by 627 pixels
  • YouTube thumbnail: 1280 by 720 pixels
  • Pinterest pin: 1000 by 1500 pixels

Fill when the frame is the design

A square post and a story usually want Fill. Drag the image until the face or the product sits inside the safe middle. Stories crop aggressively at the top and bottom in some apps, so do not park text on the edges.

Fit when the whole picture matters

A diagram, a screenshot, or a photo with a border should use Fit. Pick a background that matches the design, often white. Fit does not crop, so a tall photo inside a wide frame will show bars. That is more honest than cutting the subject off.

Do not upscale a thumbnail

A 400-pixel image placed in a 1080-pixel frame looks soft because the extra pixels are invented. Resize only as far as the source can support, or take a new capture. After download, expect the network to compress the file again. Sharp text survives that better as PNG; photographs usually travel better as JPEG or WebP.
